In 1991 Carol and Dan Abel purchased the building located at 316 Beaver Street. The property included apartments, a beauty shop and pizza shop. After six years the pizza shop owner decided to relocate and in 1997 Carol and Dan turned that empty space into the Hastings Beaver Street Café. Carol is a registered nurse and Dan owns his own masonry business so they had hopes that their middle son Greg would be returning home from the United State Air Force to manager this new endeavor.
Greg who is also a registered nurse always had a passion for cooking. After graduating from IUP with a Bachelor’s in nursing he joined the Air Force and was stationed in Biloxi, Mississippi before returning home in 1998. Once Greg returned home back to Hastings, he continued to manage the Beaver Street Café.
In 2013, Greg and his wife Erin made it official and purchased the Café from Carol and Dan. Erin has her MBA from St. Francis University and together they make the business work. Greg loves to cook and Erin loves to crunch the numbers. Today the café offers a wide variety of menu options and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Café is a nice addition to this small town. It is nice to see familiar faces and the support of the local community.
The Café is very grateful for their loyal customers and dedicated employees. For the past 19 years the Abel Family have owned and operated the Hastings Beaver Street Café, being all Hastings natives, they are all proud to have a footprint in Hastings and looking forward to the next chapter.
